Veronica Cruz, born in Glen Cove NY, is 22 years old. She started photography not long after she suffered a brain injury. Her photography has had a few jumps from studio to portraiture to street to documentary and now to something that is story oriented. She makes photographs about specific moments or events in her life. In her recent works she has made work about her childhood trauma and sickness. This type of work includes a mix of landscapes, light studies and self portraiture. When creating this work, she had to go through those heavy emotions, which seemed as if she was going through her trauma all over again, when instead it was really the emotions she had been feeling throughout the years, all shoved down and now overflowing. With this work, she has been able to become more vulnerable in a way she has never allowed herself to be. It has allowed her to create more raw and emotional work. She has also started to add writing to her work. She feels that it works best with her work when she feels she couldn’t photograph a certain moment or emotion in the way her writing can.
